Watching shows like Gossip Girl religiously, I’m quite ready to admit that I am (was?) one of millions of people of my generation that are hypnotized into believing that fun and glamour come along with being wealthy, and being wealthy makes us fun and glamorous.
Money does not make us who we are. Not if we don’t let it.

Worth $5,400.00. Still not pretty OR glamorous.
I have had some thinking to do. After stumbling upon Blog Action Day ads, and thinking of something to write about for poverty, I thought, I want so many expensive things (though not as expensive — or as ugly? — as an LV bag), and I rant about them incessantly. I complain, I whine, I stress out over everything financial and material. But I have a house, food, clothes, family… We’re not rich, but we’re okay! Hell, I have the time and money to get online everyday! I should just quit whining and be grateful.
And I will.
Honestly, I’d rather be a witness to smiling homeless kids that I’ve helped out in some way, then have a fancy bag slung across my shoulder.
I hope more people will start feeling that way, too. (If you have the resources to help, please do.)

So much more pleasant to look at, don't you think?*
I don’t want to turn into one of those ignorant schmucks I hate so much.
I’m still going to loooove watching Gossip Girl — I’m a girl, damn it, and I can’t help but love the show! But I’m going to find some way to help these kids, even if it starts out with just dropping some spare change into those charity canisters for kids’ causes beside McDonald’s cash registers. It’s about time I start doing shit that means something.
