Dearest Whoever Gives My Number To Other People Without My Permission,
For the second time this year, and only the third time ever, I am going to need to change my cell phone number because of you.
The first time I ever changed my number, it was because my phone had been stolen – by an ex or a stranger, I’m not sure. Either way, it wasn’t my choice.
The next time I changed it was 2 or 3 years later. My number somehow got into the hands of hormone-driven boys too old to actually still be hormone-driven… And their friends. They wouldn’t stop texting, and they actually knew stuff about me (Shit, yeah.), thus the term Creepy Stalker Guys was born. I think I even had a Creepy Stalker Fan Club. Yay?
And as I didn’t want to be the object of obsession of said Creepy Stalker Fan club any longer, I got a new SIM.
This current number I’ve had less than a year.
As I’m sure you know, Whoever Gives My Number, when I give my number out, it’s always with an attached disclaimer that says:
“Please don’t give my phone number to anyone without my permission.” with a little footnote that pretty much sums up to “I’ve had enough of Creepy Stalker Guys. Please help me avoid them. Kthx.”
Maybe I wasn’t as specific as I should have been? You think? Do we need fine print? Or did you misread that to say something more along the lines of “I need more textmates! Give my number to anyone you come across please!”? Because, outside of the usual “May sasabihin ako sa’yong importante, call me or send me P100 load.” text that’s easy to ignore, I still get texts from numbers not in my phonebook.
Some texts, I was only a little bit relieved to know were people I actually knew. But the fact that I didn’t know they had my number means you, Whoever Gives My Number, did not understand my rules. I am the only one allowed to give my own phone number. How is that so hard to understand?
(And for the record, I still get texts from Creepy Stalker Guys. Not of the same Fan Club as mentioned above, but Creepy Stalker Guys nonetheless. Somebody save me. Sheesh.)
My cellphone number is called my personal contact number for a reason. It’s PERSONAL. And private.
I’d like to keep it that way.
I wish I knew who you were, Whoever Gives My Phone Number To Other People Without My Permission, so I could just not give you my new number.
REALLY.
Kk. Gtg. TCCIC.
Love,
Jewel “I am not amused.” Angeles
And a special shout-out to People Who Keep My Number To Themselves:
I love you all. Expect a text/online message from me within this week… Or whenever I feel like giving my number out again.
