I was heading home this morning, taking a shortcut through that dingy little building I walk through everyday, and somebody I passed said “Hey!”
It wasn’t a scary Omigod please don’t rob me! hey. Nor was it a Shit I swear I didn’t do it I DIDN’T DO IT! hey. It was a friendly familiar hey. The kind of hey that’s usually to attached to a How are you? or Musta?
I continued walking past the hey-sayer, and pretended not to hear (because I’m a snob like that). But I turned around when I was sure I wouldn’t be seen, and — HUH. It was Young Pirate, the dude I (almost) always buy DVDs from.
I was thinking: The DVD vendor dude said “Hey.” Not a creepy “Hi, miss.” (that I’m used to getting in that area damn it) or even just a “Hi” or “Hello.” But a nice friendly English “Hey!”
Sosyal.
Weird.
Then I walked on home, scratching my head in befuddlement.
